SarahB is a textile specialist who champions slow fashion and sustainable design using meticulous (treadled) stitching skills. She is the inventor of FlatMannie – a collection of flatpack dressforms available as female & male models and made in England. FlatMannie is an Affiliate of A Single Thread. Sarah has been a member of MAKE Southwest since 2018.
Circular & sustainability focus
FlatMannie is a project devised to encourage anyone to learn sewing, pattern-cutting and fashion design skills with an eye on creating much less waste as their study progresses ... FlatMannies are available flat-packed in half and quarter scale allowing for quicker working in smaller spaces to devise ideas and patterns in draft before going on to work full size (also available). Of course these delightful figures are also very much about enjoyment too... FlatMannies are sometimes used solely as an objet d'art especially when filled with bright haberdashery offering a counterpoint to the soft brown shades of the recycled card they are made from.
