How To Use Your Sewing Machine Workshop
Hosted by Minycled at the Sustainable Fashion Week Hub Torquay 2026 Event
Tutor: Kristina Cole
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Have a sewing machine sitting in a cupboard that you are too intimidated to turn on? It’s time to move past the fear, gain confidence, and build the fundamental skills required to unlock a lifetime of mending, reworking, and sustainable clothing care at the SFW Hub Torquay 2026 event.
The Agenda
Led by expert tutor Kristina Cole, this hands-on, practical 3-hour morning session takes you completely from scratch. Together, we will master:
The Essentials: Understanding machine anatomy, choosing correct needles, and navigating your settings.
The Mechanics: Threading the top spool, winding the lower bobbin, and pulling up your thread safely.
The Practice: Sewing perfectly straight lines, turning sharp corners, and practicing essential edge stitching.
The Finish: Mastering the reverse backstitch to lock your seams so they never unravel.
The Takeaway
You will leave the event with the muscle memory and step-by-step knowledge needed to comfortably operate your machine at home, ready to dive straight into your own circular fashion, repair, and upcycling projects.
What To Bring
Sewing machine with manual (paper or digital), power leads, foot pedal, attachments, small scissors, and a bright-colored bobbin of thread.
SFW Hub Torquay is hosted locally by Minycled Ltd and takes part in the national Sustainable Fashion Week programme, led by A Single Thread.
